Shihan Manuel Carrillo

Shihan Carrillo is the chief instructor of Carrillo's Shotokan Karate-Do.Shihan Carrillo is an excellent Martial Arts Instructor with very extensive knowledge in karate, and kobudo (weapons),judo and other areas of martial arts, he has been teaching and training karate since 1977.

Shihan Carrillo was born and raised in Jerecuaro,GTO, Mexico.  In 1975 he moved to California.  Shihan Carrillo began his martial arts training in January 1977.  His introduction to martial arts was in TaeKwanDo,Korean style.  He then trained for 12 years in the art of Shorin Ji Ryu, Japanese style reaching 3rd Degree Black Belt(Sandan).  During these 12 years he trained under Sensei Cal Avila, a very respected instructor from the Butokukai Organization. 

In 1989, he started training in the Japanese style of Shotokan under Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi. He trained directly under Shihan Funakoshi for 11 years.  Reaching the rank of 5th degree black belt (Godan).  In February 2000, Shihan Carrillo broke away from Shihan Funakoshi and the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association.  This was a very successful change for Shihan Carrillo. In November, 2004 Shihan Carrillo was promoted to 6th Degree Black Belt (Rokudan) by the ISKA organization.  

Throughout Shihan's martial arts career, he has continued to compete in many tournaments in Califonia and Mexico. Often taking the first place medal for kata and kumite, both nationally and internationally. Shihan was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004 for his outstanding contributions to the martial arts. 

Shihan Carrillo has taught in many places: including Salinas, Greenfield, King City, Watsonville, Aromas, Chowchilla, Ceres, Atwater, Planada and Los Banos California. Shihan Carrillo's main dojo is located in Neosho Missouri.

For Shihan Carrillo, karate is a way of life and he follows the teachings and philosophies of Master Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of Shotokan Karate.
